Keep Shack Wild

How BrandStorm helped a community fight back.

Their Story

The community was up in arms when the Army Corps of Engineers announced they would consider putting dredge material on Shackleford Banks. The team worked overtime during the Christmas/New Year holiday to create a website, direct mail pieces, and newspaper ads to get the word out that the community would have limited time to submit public comments to the corps. Getting the federal government to back down on this issue took a massive effort to build a coalition and mobilize the public. Ultimately, the National Park Service relented and pulled out of the agreement.

It was a real win-win for the community when the Park Service backed down, clearing the way for dredge sand to be used to protect the developed beaches and protect a public wilderness area at the same time.
